Garden City, N.Y. - In their second meeting this season, the Adelphi University women's basketball team fell to No. 4 Bentley University on Tuesday evening inside the Center for Recreation & Sport, by a final score of 72-45.
The Panthers entered the contest as the only loss on the Falcons' schedule, a 59-55 victory in November of 2024. This time however, the Blue and White held control from the opening tip.Â
Maggie Whitmore capped off an early 11-2 run with a pull-up jumper, with five of those points coming from her.
Victoria Morgan turned the early deficit to six on a three-point shot with under three minutes to play in the opening quarter. Unfortunately, another 8-0 run from the visitors ended on a Cassidy Yeomans layup, upping the advantage to 14 by the sound of the buzzer.Â
As the gap widened in the second set of 10 minutes,
Isabella Asencio scored the first basket for the 'Cats to put double digits on the board. At the break, Asencio finished with six points.
Rolanda Robinson hit two deep shots to tie that total, but Morgan's seven led the squad as they faced a 25-point uphill battle at the half.Â
Gamila Betton broke the ice as the team came out of the locker room for her first points of the day. Senior guard Robinson doubled her first half point total in just 3:30 of play, getting her 12th on a driving layup.
Kaitlyn O'Connell finally found her heat from beyond the arc as the clock winded down in the third, hitting her first shot of the day with 0:41 on the clock.Â
Robinson continued to dominate the offensive look from the Brown and Gold, hitting the first basket of the fourth quarter. This field goal also put her points number at 14, the highest she's seen in nine games. Morgan tallied the final three points for the 'Cats, giving her 10 for her third double-digit day of the season. The team combined for nine steals, five of which came from Robinson to increase her conference lead in swipes. Betton swatted a pair of shots on the defensive end as well.
