Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team opened up the 2024 campaign against Molloy on Thursday afternoon at the Bentley Kickoff Tournament.
The Panthers controlled the ball early on, earning two corner kicks in the first fifteen minutes. Adelphi finally broke through on the scoreboard in the 26
th minute with
Sarah Kent scoring her first Panther goal off a beautiful cross into the box from Alexa Piotrowksi, who made her collegiate debut.
The 'Cats took a 1-0 lead into halftime and continued to apply the pressure in the second half. Adelphi possessed the ball for much of the early goings, not allowing Molloy to get onto its side of the field.

Kayleigh Goodrich scored a stunner in the top left corner of the net off of a feed from
Dylann Trahey. It did not take long for the Panthers to get on the board for a third time as
Madison Apicella found the back of the net in the 89
th minute to give Adelphi a 3-0 victory and a 1-0-0 start to the season.
Adelphi outshot Molloy by 11 at a margin of 16 to five while both teams had three corner kicks and committed four fouls.
In her Panther debut,
Peyton DeRouen had a clean sheet with four saves and was named player of the game by her peers.
"The players did everything they could to dominate the game with a very convincing performance in the second half," DeRosa said. "This is the start to the season that we wanted and now it's time to focus on the next game."
Adelphi will return to the pitch on Saturday at 11 a.m. when they take on Wilmington (Del.) and wrap up their trip to Massachusetts.
