Garden City, N.Y. - Improving each set, the Adelphi University volleyball program closed out its homestand with a three-set sweep of Wilmington University on Saturday, bouncing back from its Friday night loss to Lewis inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
Nine different players recorded kills for the Panthers (6-6) with
Macarty McQueen leading the charge with 11.
Delaney Kiendra was also in double-figures as she notched 10 and added two solo blocks.
Kalena Ricketts tallied a team-leading three service aces alongside six kills and
Kambel Fiser finished the afternoon with 33 assists.
Adelphi's early 5-2 start in the opening set was all it needed to stay ahead of the Wildcats, as they never relinquished the lead and closed out a 25-18 win.
In their best offensive outing, the Panthers recorded 15 kills with just two errors as a team to post an impressive .542 hitting percentage in the second set. With
Autumn Moore at the service line, the home team sprinted to a 14-4 lead after a string of seven points, helped largely by kills from Kiendra and McQueen. Stifled, the Wildcats struggled to bounce back and put together any form of offense as they hit an even .000 as a team with Adelphi winning 25-14.
Much like the second, the hosts used another serving streak from Moore to put Wilmington on their heels, doubling their opponent's score at 12-6. Nine of the ensuing 10 points also were awarded to the Brown and Gold to make it a 22-11 contest. Newcomer
Elsa Richards came of the bench to grab her first collegiate assist on fellow freshman
Mackenzie Casey's kills at match point, en route to Adelphi stealing a 25-13 decision and the game.
Adelphi plays three more non-league matchups before opening Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, October 5. The Panther's next game fall on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Mercy University. Opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
