Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Goes Down In Straight Sets to RV Lewis University

Garden City, N.Y.- The Adelphi University volleyball team played the second of their three game homestand on Friday night, dropping a competitive 3-0 decision to Lewis University in the team's second-ever matchup.

Just hours before playing the Panthers (5-6), the Flyers (6-4) came out on top in a 3-0 win over Long Island neighbor Molloy University and maintained their momentum inside the Center for Recreation and Sport.

The Panthers had trouble getting ahead early in sets throughout the match, despite notching at least 20 points in all three of the sets. Adelphi's defense was busy digging up balls from the Flyers hard hitting front line for most of the night, paced by libero senior Jaydin Nowak, who posted a game-high 21 digs. This is the fourth time the senior defender has notched 20 or more digs this season.

The home team managed to knot the opener at 20-all, but the Flyers scored five of the last six points to take a 25-21 victory.

While all sets were tightly contested, the hosts finished the night with a .198 hitting percentage which is their third lowest team mark on the young season. It was most evident when the Flyers were up by as many as seven points at two different points of the second frame.

Yet, the 'Cats found a way to get within one of the visitors going a 7-1 run bringing the score to 12-11. Lewis responded with an identical 7-1 run of their own and never looked back, winning set two 25-20.

Freshman Emilia Cascapera was able to make key kills in set three to keep the Brown and Gold alive in crunch time, forcing the Flyers to take both their timeouts in the span of six points. After trading points for the latter part of the set, the visitors from Illinois edged the home team by a score of 27-25 securing the match win. Cascapera and senior outside hitter Noelle Alberda led Adelphi with 10 kills a piece. Lewis was led by Lauren Buxton, who tallied 14 kills in the win.

The Panthers will look to have a winning homestand on Saturday September 21 as they take on the Wildcats of Wilmington University (Del.) at 3:00 p.m..
