Garden City, N.Y. — Head coach Rebecca Fakas and the Adelphi women's tennis team returned home after the ITA east regionals to take on New Haven in a Northeast-10 matchup.
The day started with doubles play that included an ITA doubles championship rematch when Katarina Liedbeck and Roisin Boyd took on Valentinna Ferrarini and Karim Carreras. Unfortunately for the Panther duo, the pair from New Haven would jump out to an early lead and hold it as Liedbeck and Boyd fell 1-6.
Zuzanna Witkowska and Caterina Federici fought hard early in their match but much like in their teammates' match the Chargers would pull away and the 'Cats duo fell 2-6.
Adelphi's third pair of Sara Lindeman and Genesis Beltran impressed, taking a 5-4 lead into the tenth game. The freshman twosome would continue to battle but the more experienced New Haven team would bounce back and ultimately win the match, 5-7.
Singles play was when the tide began to turn for the Panthers. Liedbeck was incredible against Ferrarini, not letting the New Haven number one gain any momentum as she won the match in two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Witkowska took on ITA finalist Carreras and showed that she will be a force to be reckoned with this year in NE10 play. The sophomore from Poland made quick work of her opponent, winning the match 6-2, 6-3.
Lindeman continued her strong play against conference foes, winning her match 6-1, 6-1 and moving to 3-1 to start her collegiate singles career.
While Adelphi was strong in the latter half of the match, they were not able to complete the comeback and fell 3-4.
The Panthers will return to the court on Saturday at noon when they host Bentley.
