Volleyball Bests Queens in Home Opener, 3-1

Garden City, N.Y. - In front of its home crowd for the first time in the 2024 season, the Adelphi University volleyball team took a 3-1 decision from Queens College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

In just its eighth meeting since the 2012 season, the Panthers (5-5) extended its win streak over the Knights to 10 consecutive matches, with the last defeat taking place in 2008.

Tuesday's victory was anchored by double-digit performances from four different athletes, with newcomer Kalena Ricketts leading the way with 13 kills and an impressive .545 hitting percentage to boot. Pacing the electric offense was two-time Northeast-10 Conference Setter of the Week Kambel Fiser, who poured in 47 assists while adding 12 digs.

For her first time out in a libero uniform this season inside the Center for Recreation and Sports, Jaydin Nowak recorded a career-best 31 digs, and was responsible for three of Adelphi's seven service aces.

With a 2-0 advantage in the match following a narrow second-set victory, Queens College outhit the home team and recorded two more team blocks to steal the third by a 25-21 decision. In eight meetings, this marks just the fourth set that Adelphi has dropped to the Knights.

With something to prove, the Cats used 13 kills and a remarkable .407 team hitting percentage to regain its momentum and close out the non-conference tilt in four sets. The Knight attack committed nearly as many errors as kills they recorded, and were unable to get over the hump, ultimately falling 25-14.

Adelphi is back at home for its next contest when they host Lewis University on Friday, September 20 at 6:00 p.m.
