Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Victor Castel Scores as Men’s Soccer Falls to East Stroudsburg

Garden City, N.Y. — On Saturday night, the Adelphi men's soccer team played host to East Stroudsburg after the match was moved from ESU due to issues with its athletic facility.

The Warriors started off hot, recording four shots in the first twenty minutes but Santiago Arango kept them at bay with three early saves.

Victor Castel and the Panthers would threaten in the 23rd minute with a quick shot and a corner kick but a foul inside the box would thwart Adelphi's chances of a prolonged attack.

East Stroudsburg would keep applying the pressure and after an errant pass bounced off of the back of an Adelphi player, the Warriors would cut down the field and score on a header that was intended to be a pass for a 1-0 lead. Before the Panthers would even catch their breath, East Stroudsburg struck again from the left side of the field and went into the half with a 2-0 lead.

Unfortunately for Adelphi, they just had no answer for the ESU attack as the Warriors would score a third goal just a minute into the second period and then pot their fourth goal eight minutes later.

The 'Cats would not go down without a fight, as their best chance of the day turned into Castel's first goal of the 2024 campaign. Sam Nolan swung beautiful corner kick into the box and the Adelphi captain would capitalize with a header.

ESU would score its fifth goal in the 65th minute and while the Panthers were putting together long runs into the Warrior defense, they just could not find the back of the net and the game ended with a score of 5-1.

Adelphi held the edge in both corner kicks (seven to four) and saves (four to three).

Daniele Botazzo made his Adelphi debut in the game. Saul Cardozo and Benjamin Salas made their collegiate debuts.

Head coach Gary Book and the Panthers will return to the pitch on Tuesday when they travel to Gannon at 1 p.m.
