Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Panthers Split on Day 1 of IUP Invitational

Indiana, Pa. - Following an early afternoon victory, the Adelphi Univesrity volleyball program concluded a day with a loss in its night cap, finishing 1-1 overall on day one of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Invitational.

In the opener, the Panthers (3-4) took a 3-1 decision from Shippensburg University before suffering a three-set sweep to Ashland University later in the day.

Game One: Adelphi 3, Shippensburg 1 (25-16, 25-17, 21-25, 25-17)
The Adelphi front line doubled the Raiders output in blocks, as Kalena Ricketts and Macarty McQueen each put up six block assists each. In total, the Cats posted 12 to 'Ship's six, and recorded 20 more digs on defense.

McQueen and Emilia Cascapera accounted for a team leading 15 and 13 kills, respectively, while Jaydin Nowak put up a new career high 28 digs through four sets. Pacing the offense once again was Kambel Fiser as she cleared forty assists with 42 in total.

Game Two: Ashland 3, Adelphi 0 (19-25, 23-25, 18-25)
The Panthers struggled in the last game of the day, despite another double-digit performance from Cascapera. Nearly matching the rookie in kills, Lilyen McCarthy accounted for nine with a .333 hitting percentage.

Ashland built a comfortable lead in the early going of the first set - one too large for Adelphi to overcome, although only dropping the opener by six points.

The second frame was a much narrower decision, as the Cats used a six point swing to take the lead 22-21. A stalemate at 23-all, the Eagles tallied the final two points to move to 2-0 in the match. The third and final set mirrored the first, as the Brown and Gold committed nine errors while Ashland continued its consistent offense.

Tonight's contest marked the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Adelphi wraps up the tournament with back-to-back games against Lock Haven and West Virginia State University at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
