Baseball Ends Regular Season With a Statement; Routs Saint Rose, 16-3

Albany, N.Y. - Needing a win to earn a berth to the NE10 postseason, the Adelphi University baseball team did all that and more in a 16-3 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Bellizzi Field.

The victory cements Adelphi (23-22, 15-12 NE10) into the No. 3 seed, and puts the 'Cats on a collision course with expected No. 2 seed University of New Haven on Tuesday (May 7) at Frank Vieira Field.

Third-year head coach Bill Ianniciello turned to Brendan Kenneally as his starter, and the second-year hurler turned in six innings of three-run ball in his final appearance of the regular season.

Kenneally faced two over the minimum through his first three innings, which allowed the Panthers to jump out to an early 4-0 lead through three.

After a couple of errors drove in a pair for Adelphi in the top of the second, Greyson Pizzonia led off the third with his second collegiate roundtripper on a drive to left-center.

Although Saint Rose (20-23, 13-14) sliced the deficit in half in the home fourth, the Brown and Gold still managed to pile it on in the later innings.

A four-run sixth and a seven-run eighth ultimately led to Adelphi scratching across its largest single-game output of 2024. Most notably, Joe Pellegrino delivered his 10th home run of the season in the sixth -- a three-run shot -- that made him the first Panther since Michael Draskin in 2022 to eclipse double-digit homers.

Jacob Dannenberg followed Kenneally's start and pitched three immaculate innings to collect his first career save.

A start time has not been announced yet for Tuesday's NE10 first-round game at New Haven. Keep it tuned to AUPanthers.com for more information when it becomes available.
