Rockville Centre, N.Y. - With a combined 20 points coming from the sticks of
Logan Tucker and
Eamon Hall, the no. 4 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team ousted Molloy University 22-7 on Tuesday, in a rescheduled non-conference battle.
Traditionally a close battle, the 15-goal margin is just the second time in 12 meetings that the Panthers (9-2) have defeated the Lions (6-7) by double digits. With a 9-3 overall record, the three losses were dealt to Adelphi with [current] Associate Head Coach,
Joe Catalanotti at the helm. After starting the Lions program from the ground up, he joined the Brown and Gold sidelines in 2019 - he was elevated to Adelphi's Associate ahead of the 2014 season after helping the Cats to a National Runner-up finish in 2011.
"I'm grateful for the time, energy and passion that Coach Cat brings to our program every day," said Head Coach
Gordon Purdie. "I believe he is one of - if not the most - winningest current assistant coach in Division II. What he's done at Molloy, coupled with the accomplishments of the Adelphi program, is truly remarkable."
Jack Hipchen wasted no time getting the team from Garden City on the board, scoring just 10 seconds into the contest. Hall put in back-to-back tallies to stretch the visitor lead to four before the home team got on the board. Hall and Lewis got the last word in the opening frame to make it a 6-1 edge.
In a game where it never trailed, the Panthers poured in six more goals in the second despite the Lions tacking on two of their own.
From 10:44 in the second to 42 seconds in the third the home team was held scoreless while the Brown and Gold kept their foot on the gas with eight more goals in the third. In the 11-goal stretch for Adelphi, Tucker and Hall either scored or assisted on nine of the goals, contributing to their combined 20 points.
A man-up possession sparked a run for the hosts, who scored three straight to start the fourth and cut the deficit to 13. Tucker contributed two more helpers to close out the contest, making it a 22-7 final decision. Molloy was plagued with turnovers as the Panther defense caused nine of its 31. The teams were evenly matched with 34 ground balls apiece while the Lions had the edge in faceoff wins, 19-14.
Adelphi will be back at Motamed Field on Saturday, April 13 when they host Franklin Pierce in league action. Following the Northeast-10 Conference matchup, the team and department will recognize the 12 members of the graduating class.
