West Chester, Pa. - After winning there last year, the Adelphi University baseball team was unable to dig itself out of a gaping hole on Tuesday in a 21-9 loss to West Chester University at Serpico Stadium.
Last time out,
Joe Pellegrino delivered a two-homer game in what was a 10-7 come-from-behind win over the Rams (24-5) back on Apr. 12, 2023.
In this outing, Pellegrino brought Adelphi (11-15) back from an early 4-0 deficit with a bases-clearing double into the left-center field gap in the third inning.
It was in the home half of the third when West Chester officially broke it open against Adelphi starter
Bobby Molinaro, who surrendered nine runs in three frames.
In a similar fashion to Pellegrino, West Chester's Joe Kaleck split the Adelphi defense with a gap shot that re-extended the hosts' lead to four runs at 8-4.
With many of
Bill Ianniciello's starters resting,
Michael Robinson got another opportunity at third base and slashed a two-RBI single in the fourth, closing the gap to 9-7.
Robinson finished the day with a career-high four RBIs, but Adelphi's second comeback was paused there.
James Eden and
Nick Lopez each added an RBI on the day for the 'Cats.
The Rams ultimately put 21 runs up on the scoreboard off 18 hits --Â a season-high allowed by Adelphi pitching this season.
Ianniciello and the Panthers resume NE10 competition this weekend, beginning Saturday (Apr. 13) in Worcester, Mass. with a 12 noon doubleheader at Assumption University.
