Baseball Loses Sunday Series Finale at SCSU, 15-4

New Haven, Conn. - In the rubber game of a three-game weekend series, the Adelphi University baseball team fell 15-4 to NE10 Southwest Division rival Southern Connecticut State University Sunday at The Ballpark at SCSU.

The Panthers (11-14, 4-7 NE10) fell behind from the get-go, as SCSU's No. 9 hitter -- Derick Jagello -- beat Adelphi freshman starter Dawson Montesa with a two-out, two-RBI single in the bottom of the second.

While Alec Maag fired back with a two-out RBI single in the third that cut the deficit in half, Southern's first four innings yielded eleven runs for the home side.

The Owls (17-13, 5-6 NE10) batted around in what was a six-run third, and relied on a Devin Pelletier home run to tack on three more runs in the fourth.

Montesa got charged with eight runs and eight hits in his 2.2 innings of work. Zach Rovner went 3.1 in relief and struck out four, letting up one hit in the process.

Although the result was no longer in doubt, Greyson Pizzonia delivered a pair of RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings. Albert Ramos also singled in a run in the sixth.

Head Coach Bill Ianniciello and the 'Cats travel to West Chester, Pa. on Tuesday (Apr. 9) for a 3 p.m. first pitch at West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
