Worcester, Mass. - Earning its sixth straight win, the no. 4 Adelphi University men's lacrosse program defeated Assumption University on Saturday, by a final score of 17-8.
Saturday's win marks the seventh game this season that the Cats have held it's opponents to single digits, while remaining flawless in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Logan Tucker became the second player this week to earn the career milestone of 100 points, with his goal in the first quarter.
Dylan Renner set a new career-mark in saves with 21 after facing 37 shots from the Greyhounds (5-3, 2-2 NE10).
Adelphi (8-2, 6-0 NE10) found themselves down two after the opening 15 minutes of action. The home team got on the board first and proceeded to pour in five, including one to make it a two-goal edge with 12 seconds left in the frame. The Panthers quickly turned it around in the second, scoring five straight to earn its first lead of the contest, which they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.
All five goals in the second came from different scorers, with rookies
Braden Donnellan and
Ryan Bauco each accounting for a tally and an assist in the stretch to make it 8-6 at the halftime break.
The momentum the visiting team found in the second carried well into the third as
Kyle Steinbach jump-started a 5-1 stretch of scores in which he struck twice. After three quarters of work, Adelphi doubled the hosts' score, leading 14-7.
Assumption did all it could to find ways to score, but another rainy gameday went the way of the Cats. Even in the final frame, the Panthers held a 14-7 advantage in shots alone, marking its third game this season with 50 or more shots.
Despite inconsistencies at the faceoff X, the Panthers were saved by their near perfect clear attempts (21-for-23) and netminder Renner's 21 stops between the pipes.
In a rescheduled rainout from earlier in the year, Adelphi will trip across town on Tuesday, April 9 to take on Molloy University in non-conference action at 7:00 p.m.
