High-Scoring Affair Ends in #3 Women's Lax's 21-15 Defeat of SNHU

Garden City, N.Y. - With a combined score of 36 goals, the no. 3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse program used a 21-15 decision to cap the regular season with a win over Southern New Hampshire on Saturday at Motamed Field.

The Panthers (14-2, 10-1 NE10) have locked in the no. 2 seed ahead of the Northeast-10 Conference tournament, which is slated to begin Saturday, May 4. The team is in a position to host a quarterfinal game, with its opponent still to be determined as the regular season officially concludes this Tuesday.

It was a close opening quarter that saw 5-5 on the scoreboard following the first 15 minutes of action. The Penmen (7-8, 4-6 NE10) used a man-up possession to stretch their lead to two but Marielle Colalillo and Kelly-Ann McGrath each recorded a tally to bring the game to even. Adelphi used a 6-3 second quarter to officially pull away from their opponent, as McGrath's first strike of the frame put the home team ahead for good.

On the day, McGrath put up a team-leading seven points courtesy of five goals and two assists, adding another 13 draw control wins to her resume.

SNHU netted a man-down goal in the third that brought them within two of the Panthers, but another offensive outburst kept the visitors at bay.

In a matter of 10 minutes, Tamia Lawson and Kerrin Heuser combined for six goals, as the duo accounted for four apiece on the day.

The Penmen strung together three late in the fourth but Colalillo notched the final two goals of the afternoon for Adelphi to close out the regular season.

The Cats were nearly perfect in clears (21-23) and held a 21-19 advantage in draw control wins.

Head Coach Pat McCabe and the squad will await their opponent with the official bracket release on Wednesday, May 1.
