Lake Success, N.Y. - In its only home competition of the spring season, the Adelphi University men's golf team won its tri-meet at Fresh Meadow Country Club.
Farmingdale State College and The College of Saint Rose were the other two institutions competing against the Panthers. The competition was formatted for each school to have five golfers that would all pair up in groups of three, and compete head-to-head for 18 holes. Each golfer was given a tally if they finished with a lower score than their two opponents in the pairing, with two columns each to represent each school.
The Brown and Gold swept all five matches against the Golden Knights, as the team of
Francis Lanuza,
Alec Ramos,
Mason Rivera,
Axel Romney, and
Johnny Solari all earned a point. Ramos, Rivera, and Romney all also earned a point against their opposition from the Rams, earning three points for the 'Cats.
After Farmingdale won their match against Saint Rose 5-0, the 3-2 result in favor of Adelphi proved to be the decisive factor in the 8-7 result.
Thomas Fasano and
Kobe Currie competed as individuals, with Farmingdale's Padruig Douglas's 78 being the best score amongst the three in that circuit.
Head Coach
David Mattana and the Panthers will now look ahead to the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional, for which they earned an automatic bid in October after winning the NE10 Championship. The two-day competition will start Friday, May 10 at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, W.Va.
