Worcester, Mass. - With
Marko Jovanovic sidelined, the Adelphi University men's tennis team lost its first NE10 match of the 2023-24 campaign, dropping a 4-3 decision to Assumption University Thursday afternoon in Worcester.
The lineup now had to step up and fill a void for the Panthers, who dipped to 11-6 overall and 8-1 in NE10 competition.
It all came down to No. 4 singles, where a pair of tiebreaks broke a 3-3 tie that would decide a winner. Losing just three points between the two tiebreakers, Assumption's Alec Pijnacker took downÂ

The 'Cats trailed three separate times, only to fight back in singles.
First,
Hugo Munoz Reinoso brought his team even after losing the doubles point, winning in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 3 flight.
Then, with Adelphi trailing 3-1 in the match,
Matias Hoyos prevailed 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 6 singles, and
Viktor Hockl fought back from a set down to triumph 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the top flight.

Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers will wrap up the regular season Saturday (Apr. 27) with a 1 p.m. opening serve at Franklin Pierce University.
