Men's Tennis Loses First NE10 Match at Assumption, 4-3

Worcester, Mass. - With Marko Jovanovic sidelined, the Adelphi University men's tennis team lost its first NE10 match of the 2023-24 campaign, dropping a 4-3 decision to Assumption University Thursday afternoon in Worcester.

The lineup now had to step up and fill a void for the Panthers, who dipped to 11-6 overall and 8-1 in NE10 competition.

It all came down to No. 4 singles, where a pair of tiebreaks broke a 3-3 tie that would decide a winner. Losing just three points between the two tiebreakers, Assumption's Alec Pijnacker took down Thomas Horsley in the decisive match, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-1).

The 'Cats trailed three separate times, only to fight back in singles.

First, Hugo Munoz Reinoso brought his team even after losing the doubles point, winning in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 3 flight.

Then, with Adelphi trailing 3-1 in the match, Matias Hoyos prevailed 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 6 singles, and Viktor Hockl fought back from a set down to triumph 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the top flight.

Head Coach Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers will wrap up the regular season Saturday (Apr. 27) with a 1 p.m. opening serve at Franklin Pierce University.
