Rindge, N.H. - Even leading 3-0, the Adelphi University men's tennis team was unable to shut the door Saturday in a disheartening 4-3 loss to Franklin Pierce University on Saturday at the FPU Tennis Courts.
Needing to just one point to prevail, the Panthers (11-7, 8-2 NE10) won the opening set at No. 3 and No. 6 singles.
Despite winning his first set,
Casey Recci lost 7-5, 2-6, 2-6 at the No. 3 flight. A 7-6 (7-5) second-set decision that favored FPU's Orlando Guerrero led to the hosts taking the eventual 10-point tiebreaker that completed the comeback at No. 6.
Hugo Munoz Reinoso went the full three sets against Preston Gordon at No. 4 singles, but fell 5-7, 7-5, 3-6.
Thomas Horsley lost his No. 5 match in straighr sets, 1-6, 4-6.
After winning convincingly in doubles,
Marko Jovanovic (6-0, 6-1) and
Viktor Hockl (7-6 (7-4), 6-2) helped the 'Cats jump out to a commanding lead in the contest.

Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad will now turn their attention to the NE10 Championship, beginning Thursday (May 2) at a four-team site in Manchester, N.H. As the No. 1 seed, the Panthers will meet fourth-seeded Assumption University in the semifinals at 10 a.m.
