Men's Tennis Makes It Back-to-Back NE10 Regular-Season TItles

Colchester, Vt. - Deja vu? No.

Already matching last season's win total, the Adelphi University men's tennis team has now also earned at least a share of its second-straight NE10 regular-season championship, following Tuesday's 5-2 victory at Saint Michael's College in Colchester.

After winning their first-ever NE10 regular-season title last year, the Panthers (11-5, 8-0 NE10) have now added to that history with their first of back-to-back NE10 regular-season championships in 2024.

"I'm incredibly proud of the team for capturing their second NE10 regular-season title in two years. It is a testament to the hard work and determination of the players and staff each day," said Head Coach Rebecca Fakas.

While the 'Cats ultimately swept doubles, it took a pair of tiebreakers for the visitors to prevail. Hugo Munoz Reinoso and Reece Farrow, and Viktor Hockl and Thiago Negrao won by identical 7-6 (7-5) scorelines at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights, respectively.

The Brown and Gold then exhibited the depth of their line-up in singles, with NE10 Player of the Year Marko Jovanovic sitting out.

Making his first career start at No. 1 singles, Hockl found himself on the winning side of another tiebreak, in a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 decision.

With all 'Cats moving up in the lineup, Casey Recci won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Reinoso triumphed 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3. Farrow capped off the day with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 flight.

"The conference is very strong with some quality teams, so we don't take this achievement for granted. Our hope is that we can continue to build on this heading into the final stretch of the season, as we prepare for a strong postseason performance," Fakas continued.

The Panthers will next look to stake their claim as undisputed regular-season champions, in Thursday's (Apr. 25) upcoming 3 p.m. match at Assumption University.
