Softball Runs Winning Streak to Double Digits in Sweep of Georgian Court; 14-1, 4-1

Lakewood, N.J. - Finishing out its non-conference schedule, the Adelphi University softball team swept its doubleheader with Georgian Court University on Sunday afternoon in Lakewood.

With this set of wins, the Panthers (26-16, 13-3 NE10) have now won 11 games in a row, their longest streak at any point this season. In a bigger sample size, the Brown and Gold have also won 19 of their last 20.

Game 1: Adelphi 14, Georgian Court 1 (F/6)
The offense certainly didn't wait, in a game with fifteen runs. The first inning plated runs for both sides, with freshman Kaitlyn Klepper's infield single putting the 'Cats on top first.

Jordyn Pasqueralli's third-inning single brought home Zee Zee Shreter to regain the lead for the Brown and Gold. Courtney Wengryn's deep double scored two more to increase the margin to three runs.

As Lindsey Hibbs began to settle in after a first-inning blunder, the reigning NE10 Pitcher of the Year successfully allowed no runner to advance past second base through the fifth. Striking out four along the way, the graduate student allowed five hits in the same span.

The sixth inning is where the bats exploded. Brianna Fischer's single and Alexa Sacripante's double helped score four runs to bring the Adelphi total to eight. Brianna Pearson then appeared in a pinch-hit opportunity, singling up the middle to score another.

In the biggest and farthest hit of the game, Faith Camilleri smashed the first ball she saw over the center-field fence to put double digits on the scoreboard for the 'Cats, her third of the season. Makayla Comer then hit her first double of the season, scoring two to reach the final number of fourteen.

Hibbs struck out two more in the bottom half of the frame, with her final line yielding zero earned runs on seven hits, along with six strikeouts to end the matinee.

Game 2: Adelphi 4, Georgian Court 1
The Lions started their second-consecutive game with a score in the nightcap. The first two batters doubled and singled, resulting in the early lead for the hosts. Outside of that, the offense went essentially quiet for the next five innings.

Georgian Court's Janelle Blaszka had a stellar start to the contest, not allowing a hit for the first five and only walking three in that same stretch. Outside of Klepper advancing to second on a passed ball in the second, no 'Cats made it past first base.

That all began to change in the sixth, when Shreter's lead-off single ended the no-no bid. As Courtney Murphy looked to lay one down to advance her, a throwing error at third base sent the ball way behind the first-base bag, letting Shreter come all the way around to tie the ballgame. A subsequent sacrifice fly from Pasqueralli scored Murphy to give the visitors their first lead of Game 2.

Lily Kenney kept her composure after giving up the first run, allowing just two hits the rest of the afternoon. Fischer's much-needed insurance double in the seventh frame gave Adelphi some breathing room with just three outs left to complete a sweep.

Despite a runner getting to scoring position after a fielding error by Fischer, Kenney struck out her final batter of the contest to set a new season-high with five. The freshman's final line consisted of one earned run on four hits in her sixth complete game of 2024.

Head Coach Carla Campagna and the Panthers will now finish out their conference slate, beginning on Tuesday (Apr. 23), when they take on University of New Haven in West Haven, Conn. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
