Men's Tennis Defends Home Court One Final Time With 6-1 Defeat of Bentley

Oceanside, N.Y. - Entering today's action with a near-perfect 5-1 record at home, the Adelphi University men's tennis team wrapped up its 2023-24 home schedule with a 6-1 win over Bentley University in NE10 action Saturday at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.

Even with a record of 7-12, the Falcons (7-12, 2-7 NE10) were looking to play spoiler against the Panthers (10-5, 7-0 NE10) -- who are now a win away from claiming their second-consecutive NE10 regular-season championship.

Bentley kept Adelphi on its toes all afternoon. Commencing with doubles, the top pairing of Marko Jovanovic and Thomas Horsley, with the first point in limbo, captured a 6-4 result to put the 'Cats ahead early.

Then, in singles, the Panthers and Falcons played a trifecta of three-setters and two tiebreaks.

Hugo Munoz Reinoso (6-1, 6-3) and Horsley (6-2, 6-3) first won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, to put the Brown and Gold on the cusp of victory.

A hard-fought 8-6 opening-set tiebreak set the tone for Viktor Hockl to take the second and ultimately win the match for Adelphi in convincing fashion.

Head Coach Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers will look to wrap up back-to-back regular-season titles on Tuesday (Apr. 23), when they travel to Colchester, Vt. for a 1 p.m. opening serve at Saint Michael's College.
