Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Five Straight - Women's Lax Routs Saint Rose, 21-4

Albany, N.Y. - Winning its fifth consecutive conference meeting, the no. 3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team defeated the College of Saint Rose for the last time in the regular season with a 21-4 decision on Tuesday afternoon.

Kelly-Ann McGrath led the offense with six points while four others put up five points to their stat lines, including a five-goal performance from Ashley Kolomechuk. While McGrath picked up six draw control wins, Courtney Carollo dominated the battle with nine of her own along with one goal, as one of 11 individuals to score in the matchup.

Adelphi's scoring started out strong as the team from downstate rattle off three early goals in the opening five minutes. Saint Rose (2-4, 1-2 NE10) bounced back with a tally from Daria Bock to slow the Panther momentum, but the train had already left the station as the visitors poured in four more goals, capped with an Alexandra Leggio/Tamia Lawson connection to make it 7-1. Before the quarter was through Payson Hedges, Kolomechuk and Madison Pappas all found ways past Dorothy Gaffney to make it 10-2.

The landslide continued to roll as the Panthers (8-1, 5-0 NE10) outscored the home team 5-0 in the second to lead 15-2 at the half. The Golden Knights were held to just seven shots by the halftime break, compared to the 'Cats' 26.

Six more shots in the third for Adelphi turned into four goals, led off with a strike from Danielle Marino off a Kristen Birney pass. With running time, the hosts were given limited opportunities at the cage, but still managed a goal in the last two quarters, but the deficit was too great to overcome.

A program still in its infancy, this marks just the fifth meeting all-time for the two teams, with Adelphi wrapping up a 5-0 advantage.

Adelphi is back in action on Saturday, April 6 when they host Mercy University in non-conference action at 2:00 p.m.
