Springfield, Mass. - Bouncing back from its loss earlier in the week, the no. 3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse program held American International College nearly scoreless, taking a 21-1 decision on Saturday afternoon.
Extending its all-time record against the Yellow Jackets to 19-0, nine different players scored en route to an almost perfect game.
Kerrin Heuser,
Alexandra Leggio and
Ashley Kolomechuk all contributed four goals apiece, with Leggio leading the way with eight points overall.
Adelphi (10-2, 6-1 NE10) scored six goals in five minutes before AIC got on the board. Heuser put together a hat trick in that stretch, while Leggio tacked on her first three assists of the contest. At 5:55 in the first, the train officially left the station with a
Kelly-Ann McGrath strike as the visitors poured on five more before the quarter came to a close.
With running time for the remainder of the contest, the Panthers still managed double-digit shots in both the second and third frames while adding six in the fourth to total 47 for the game. The visitors also put together a perfect 8-for-8 clip on clears while winning 19 draw controls to the hosts' five.
Kolomechuk tallied her hat trick goal in a man-down possession while
Courtney Carollo and Leggio contributed goals on either side to keep the offensive pressure alive in the second.
The 12 goals scored in the opening quarter are the most in a contest this season for the Panthers, as this is the thirteenth game all-time that the Cats have scored 20 or more goals.
