Pleasantville, NY - Challenging the nation's best scoring offense and fifth best scoring defense, the no. 4 Adelphi University men's lacrosse program all-but dominated no. 9 Pace University on Friday, securing a 12-6 victory under the lights at Northwell Stadium.
The Panthers (6-2, 4-0 NE10) handed the Setters (6-1, 2-1 NE10) their first loss of the 2024 campaign after outscoring the hosts 6-1 in the opening quarter. Back for the first time this season,
Kyle Steinbach posted a team-leading three goals en route to the visitors fourth consecutive victory this season.
Logan Tucker chipped in two tallies and two helpers to lead the program in scoring as the team extends it's all-time streak to 12 straight wins.
Adelphi wasted no time scoring six straight goals before Pace could find the back of the cage - but it was ultimately too late. Six consecutive goals from six different scorers set Adelphi apart from the get-go despite the home team outscoring the Cats in the second frame.
Tucker struck for the second time in the second quarter as the Setters found their momentum and scored three of the four goals in the frame.
Kyle Lewis and
Eamon Hall scored in succession to open up the third and extend the Adelphi advantage to five. The Panther defense played an instrumental part in holding the host offense to just four assists - the Setters started the game as the second best team in Division II for assists per game (11.17), behind Newberry's 12.30.
The fourth and final frame was all Adelphi as
Braden Donnellan and Steinbach each found a way past Jack Kern to keep the home team at bay.
Aidan Fitzgerald caused a team-leading four turnovers while
Dylan Renner picked up 15 saves, nearly reaching his career-high 18.
The Panthers will begin preparing for its next game - an April 3 meeting with the College of Saint Rose for the final time in regular season. Opening faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
