Balanced Scoring Highlights #4 Women's Lacrosse 18-4 Win Over SCSU

Garden City, N.Y. - With the help of nine different goal scorers, the no. 4 Adelphi University women's lacrosse program ran up the score on Southern Connecticut, defeating the Owls 18-4 in league action on Wednesday night.

With its 18 goals, led by graduate student Danielle Marino who had five, Adelphi (7-1, 4-0 NE10) improved its overall record against Southern Connecticut to a perfect 18-0, and held the Owls to four or fewer goals for the 12th time.

Less than a minute into the contest, Marino tallied her first goal of the evening and added her second just minutes later - both courtesy of passes from Payson Hedges. Kerrin Heuser put up a pair of goals for herself to extend the home lead to four, before the Owls found a way past Jillian McFadden to break the silence. The next four goals were unassisted for the home team, but Marino and Hedges teamed up one more time to make it 9-1 after the first quarter of action.

Madison Pappas opened scoring for Adelphi to start the second with the help of an assist from reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week Ashley Kolomechuk in a frame where the Panthers only scored three. At the break, the Owls trailed by double-digits, sending the game to running time for the remainder of the contest.

SCSU's Kirsten McIntyre found the back of the net after nearly 14 minutes of scoreless play from the visitors that spanned from 2:43 in the second to 4:03 in the third. Pappas was responsible for the next two Adelphi goals - both in man-down possessions - to extend the host lead to 14. Kristen Birney managed to get in on the scoring for her first collegiate goal at 4:18 in the final quarter.

The Panthers break for the weekend and return to action onTuesday, April 2 when they trip north to take on the College of Saint Rose.
