Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#3 Women's Lacrosse Holds on for Overtime Thriller at #20 Bentley

Waltham, Mass. - It was Danielle Marino's free position conversion that lifted no. 3 Adelphi women's lacrosse over no. 20 Bentley on Saturday, 14-13, as the former remains flawless in conference play.

The Panthers (6-1, 3-0 NE10) were down early in the first after the hosting Falcons (2-5, 0-2 NE10) netted two within the first minute of action. Kelly-Ann McGrath had a hand in three of the four goals for Adelphi in the frame, that concluded with a 4-4 tie.

Alexandra Leggio's goal to open the second gave the visitors their second lead of the contest, preceding a scoring drought for either side as the ensuing 10 minutes saw no goals. Bentley netted the 5-5 equalizer but it was Adelphi all the way through halftime, netting three straight to make it an 8-5 game. Payson Hedges converted a free position to get things going for the Cats, as the home team was never afforded an opportunity in their offensive zone for the remainder of the half.

Bentley flipped the script in the third frame, outscoring Adelphi 4-1, which saw the contest tied for the sixth time. Tamia Lawson used a transition pass from Leggio to net the first goal of the fourth, but the advantage was short lived as the Falcons responded a minute later. The teams traded goals until Ashley Kolomechuk registered two straight for the Cats, making it 13-11 with 4:34 left in regulation.

A pass to the middle found its way past Jillian McFadden as time was nearly up - with 12 seconds left on the clock, Bentley tied the game at 13-13.

After the first three minutes of overtime came and went, McGrath caused a big time turnover to bring the Panthers into their offensive end with 3:25. A late foul on Caroline Affolter sent Marino to the eight-meter at the second hash where she buried a shot past Ashlee Wargo - it wasn't until after a successful stick check that the game was final and Panthers stayed perfect in NE10 play.

Kolomechuk led all players with five points, courtesy of three goals and two assists - a new career-high. McGrath and Leggio each accounted for four points in the win and McFadden finished with 11 saves.

Adelphi returns home for a mid-week matchup against Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, March 27. Opening draw is set for 5:00 p.m.
