Queens, N.Y. - As the league schedule resumed for the 'Cats Friday afternoon, the Adelphi University men's tennis team coasted to a 7-0 victory over NE10 foe Saint Michael's College at Commonpoint Tennis in Queens.
Improving to a perfect 8-0 in region, the now-No. 39 nationally-ranked Panthers (8-2) first swept the opposition in doubles.
A 6-0 shutout for
Marko Jovanovic and
Thomas Horsley at No. 1 doubles set the tone for Adelphi's other two pairings to follow in suit.
Hugo Munoz Reinoso and
Reece Farrow came away with a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 flight, and
Thiago Negrao and
Viktor Hockl triumphed 6-2 in third doubles.
Hockl -- the No. 5 ranked singles player in the East Region -- collected his second career 6-0, 6-0 decision to kick off singles competition, earning the result over Simon Lundholm of Saint Michael's in the No. 2 spot.
The reigning NE10 Player of the Year followed the NE10 Rookie of the Year, with Jovanovic claiming a 6-4, 6-3 victory in straight sets at the top flight.
All six 'Cats ultimately won in straight sets.
Casey Recci took his match at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Reinoso, Horsley and Farrow all prevailed 6-1, 6-3 in their respective contests.
