Middlebury, Conn. - As both teams looked to fit in an outdoor match ahead of ominous weather, the Adelphi University men's tennis team took down Post University, 4-2, in a rain-shortened contest at Edgewood Bath & Tennis in Middlebury.
A losing result at No. 1 doubles was inconsequential to the Panthers (7-2), who first won comfortably at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights, respectively.
The newly-formed pairings of
Marko Jovanovic and
Thomas Horsley, and
Thiago Negrao and
Casey Recci triumphed 6-4 and 6-3 to earn the doubles point for the 'Cats.
In singles, Jovanovic's 6-1, 6-3 result in the No. 1 slot, and
Hugo Munoz Reinoso's 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 put Adelphi on the cusp of victory.
The clinching decision was at No. 4 singles, where
Reece Farrow captured his match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Matias Hoyos played at No. 6 singles and led 3-1 in the second set, although his match was halted due to rain.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad will come home to play Saint Michael's College in their first NE10 match of the spring on Friday (Mar. 22) at 11 a.m. at Point Set Racquet Club.
