Garden City, N.Y. - Once
Colin Hansen got rolling, he could not be stopped as he led the no. 4 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team in an 18-5 victory over American International on Wednesday evening.
The game was all Adelphi (4-2, 2-0 NE10) through nearly the first 25 minutes as the Panthers racked up a 9-0 advantage before the Yellow Jackets found the back of the cage. Hansen logged his first collegiate hat trick in the stretch while six other individuals scored for the home team.
Logan Tucker and
Braden Donnellan connected to end the second quarter, marking the latter's fourth assist of the day and giving Adelphi an 11-1 lead at the halftime break.
The hosts nearly tripled the amount of shots they took in the opening half compared to their opponent, who was plagued with miscues and untimely turnovers. Adelphi, led by Nick O'Shea at the faceoff X, doubled it's wins comparatively in the first two frames, as he finished 14-for-19 with a career-best seven ground balls.
AIC's best quarter of work was the third, when they matched the Panther output of three goals, but by then it was too great of a deficit to overcome.
Never taking its foot off the gas, the home team poured in four more goals in the last frame, including a long pole strike from
Ryan Durnin for his first collegiate strike.
The Panthers will host the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
