Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Streak Snapped as Women's Hoops Downs New Haven, 61-46

Garden City, N.Y. - After 11 straight losses, the Adelphi University women's basketball team displayed discipline en route to a 61-46 decision over the University of New Haven on Wednesday to earn its first victory in 2024.

Behind 6-for-13 shooting from Kaitlyn O'Connell, the junior guard poured in 17 points with nine of them coming from three-point range. Rolanda Robinson and Jenna Jordan also contributed double-figure scoring with 14 and 12, respectively to combine for 10 makes from the floor.

Adelphi (5-17, 3-13 NE10) was down by at most-nine in the opening quarter of action, with only four total makes from the floor as a team. The Chargers went off for 15. points and a 60 percent clip from the field, including a 10-point performance from Aurora Deshaies.

A Sydney Rosenoff three pointer made way for a 5-1 run in the final two minutes that only left the home team trailing by four heading into the locker room. The hosts pulled down one more board and had seven points contributed from their bench to be sitting at 23-27.

Coming our of the break, the Panthers put together a 24-5 run throughout the third (and stemming into the first half) to lead by 11 heading into the final frame. In that stretch, Adelphi shot 3-for-5 from beyond the arc to overcome their deficit and swing momentum in its favor. New Haven was stifled with only two makes from the field and zero makes on three attempts from three-point range in the 10-minute span.

All five of Adelphi's players in the third scored with seven coming from the hands of Robinson.

From there, the home team just needed to hold on to its advantage and play smart. Only committing two fouls in the final frame - when it entered the contest averaging double-digits per game - New haven threatened when it brought the game within four, but the Cats stayed firm. The Panthers closed out the contest with nine straight points and their first in 2024.

Adelphi will be on the road for its next NE10 matchup on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Southern New Hampshire University. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. inside the Stan Spirou Field House.
