Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Returns to Win Column with 77-69 Decision Over New Haven

Garden City, N.Y. - For the first time since the 2015-16 season, Head Coach Dave Duke and the Adelphi University men's basketball program has reached 11 conference victories after defeating the University of New Haven on Wednesday, 77-69.

With five players in double-digit scoring, Elijah Lewis led the way with 20 points and was closely followed by Seth Brown, who finished with 19, as the duo combined for nine makes from beyond the three-point line. For the contest, Adelphi (15-7, 11-5 NE10) set a new season-best for three-pointers, cashing in 14 times from downtown, at an impressive nearly 50 percent clip.

In a game where the Panthers never trailed, Lewis got things going at the start with his first triple of the evening at 18:33, as the home team managed to work out to an 11-point advantage before the halfway mark. David Luberoff's layup in the paint doubled the scoreboard as New Haven could not seem to get things going offensively.

The Chargers' Jah'Likai King scored 15 of the visitors' 23 points in the opening half, making it a game of catch up all the way through. Lewis and Dayshaun Walton both reached double-digits after the first 20 minutes of action, combining for 7-of-12 shooting as the team shared the ball, finishing with 11 assists.

Adelphi's lead never stretched to larger than 21 points, but they did manage to keep it in double-figures for six minutes but five straight points saw it dip to a nine-point spread. Brown tallied back to back triples and Mason Jackson put on a clinic in blocks to keep the Chargers at bay.

For the night, Jackson set a new career mark in the category, collecting six blocks to pair with 11 points and four assists. Adelphi was lifted by 19 points from its non-starters as New Haven put a goose egg in the same category.

The Panthers head back north to take on Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, February 10 with the second game of the conference doubleheader, slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
