Waltham, Mass. - Opening the February portion of the 2023-24 season, the Adelphi University men's basketball team could not overcome Bentley University on Saturday, dropping a 66-79 decision inside the Dana Center.
The last time the Panthers (14-7, 10-5 NE10) defeated the Falcons on their home court occurred just over four years to the day, with five points from
Ronnie Silva in the final 34 seconds lifted them to a 77-75 decision.
Saturday's effort fell short in the rebounding category, as the hosts held a 43-37 advantage and saw nearly 30 more points in the paint while Adelphi tried to live beyond the arc.
In a game where the visitors never led, Bentley (14-8, 9-6 NE10) shot 47 percent from the field in the opening half, and worked out to their largest lead of 16 with 2:35 until the halftime break.
Seth Brown's three pointer at 12:15 made the contest 17-all, with
Conor Regan acheiving the same feat at 25-25 nearly four minutes later.
The home team put together a 17-1 run while the Panther offense went cold and managed to hold on to a nine-point advantage heading into the locker room.
Matthew Price landed a jumper that brought the visiting team within single digits of the Falcons, as he and
Kenyuoe Ondaan fought to keep the contest within reach, getting the deficit to as small as six. The hosts led by at-most 15, a battle that was too strong to overcome from the opening frame.
Four different players reach double-figure scoring with Regan leading the charge with 15.
Dayshaun Walton,
Elijah Lewis and Price each chipped in 12 points with Regan nearly completing the double-double with nine boards.
Adelphi welcomes the University of New Haven to the Center for Recreation and Sports on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Opening tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. following the women's game at 5:30 p.m.
