Baseball Rallies Past Bridgeport Behind Acosta's Dominance, 9-6

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - On Sunday, the Adelphi University baseball team prevailed 9-6 in come-from-behind fashion against University of Bridgeport at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.

It was the effective relief outing of Carlos Acosta that kept the Panthers (2-2) in it. Over a long 5.2 innings, Acosta gave up two hits and struck out ten for his first win of 2024.

With three runs already across in the third and the Purple Knights leading 4-2, Acosta inherited a bases-loaded mess upon being summoned out of the bullpen.

The southpaw entered and struck out his first batter on four pitches, and induced a subsequent flyout to hold Bridgeport to a two-run advantage.

As Acosta retired the first ten to face him, the Adelphi bats awakened in the fourth. After C.J. Picone rallied from an 0-2 count to load the bases, James Eden and Greyson Pizzonia each worked productive at-bats to tie the score, before Jack Wishner's two-run single put the Brown and Gold in front.

The Panthers then extended their lead against the Bridgeport bullpen. Albert Ramos singled home Alec Maag in the fifth, and Wishner and Philip D'Aguanno each accounted for an RBI single in the sixth, making it a 9-4 game.

Senior left-hander Bobby Molinaro took on the ninth inning for the 'Cats, and successfully converted his first collegiate save.

The first six hitters in the Adelphi line-up all strung together multi-hit games, led by Ramos' three-hit day. Wishner collected a career-high-tying three RBIs out of the No. 2 hole.

Head Coach Bill Ianniciello and the Panthers close out their Myrtle Beach trip Monday morning (Feb. 26), with a 10 a.m. start against College of Staten Island.
