Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Even after losing its first two, the Adelphi University baseball team is coming home winners of three straight, following Monday's 6-5 walk-off victory against College of Staten Island in Myrtle Beach.
With the bases loaded and two outs in a tie game,
Alex Rende fought off a pair of pitches with two strikes, before lining the single through the hole that platedÂ
Greyson Pizzonia for the game-winning run.
The Panthers struggled initially from the onset against CSI starter Michael Santoriello, grounding into two inning-ending double plays in each of the first two frames.
Adelphi finally touched up Santoriello in the third -- all with two outs. A pair of walks and a double steal put the tying runs in scoring position, setting the stage for a red-hot
Philip D'Aguanno, who roped a two-RBI single to center. D'Aguanno also came around as the go-ahead run in the third, on
Albert Ramos' RBI single.
Now ahead, Adelphi starter
Coleton Reitan let up only two hits, until
Bobby Molinaro came on to preserve the lead in the sixth. Reitan's seven strikeouts were one off his career-high.
Jose Matos' two-out RBI single tacked on an important insurance run in the sixth, but CSI went on to tie it in the ninth against
Jacob Lee, on the strength of a two-run homer by A.J. Vigliotti.
Alec Maag was a perfect 4-for-4 and got intentionally walked in the ninth, in front of Rende's eventual game-winning at-bat. Ramos and Rende both tallied a couple of hits and drove in runs.
