Bloomfield, N.J. — Head coach Dave Duke and the Adelphi men's basketball team continued their road trip on Thursday night when they traveled to nearby CACC foe Bloomfield.
The home team opened up the scoring 40 seconds in and the race was on. Adelphi scored quickly themselves and that would be the story of the first half. When one team made a bucket, the other would respond.
A Matthew Price jumper gave the Panthers the biggest lead of the half with seven but the Bears clawed their way back for a lead of their own. Timely free throws and a layup by Mason Jackson saw Adelphi go back in front and take a three point lead into the break.
The second half saw an explosion of offense from Al-Fatir Connor for the 'Cats, who was a starter for Bloomfield last season. The junior scored 20 of his 22 points in the stanza and was the primary scoring option in the final 20.
Tied at 48 a little less than five minutes into the half, Adelphi went on an incredible 16-0 run to seize all control of the game. Connor was a main contributor with Price, Jarnel Rancy, Jackson and Tavin Pierre Philippe pouring in buckets as well.
Bloomfield tried its best to get back into the game but the Panthers were just too much as they took home an 87-77 victory.
Connor's 22 led the team followed by Jackson and Price who each scored 14.
Jarnel Rancy dished out a career-high five assists while Connor, Jackson and Andres Fulgencio all pulled down five boards.
The 'Cats will return to the court on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Goldey-Beacom at 3 p.m.
