Bridgeport, Conn. — The Adelphi men's basketball team began its five game road trip on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to the nearby University of Bridgeport.
Dayshaun Walton got off to a hot start, scoring the first seven points for the Panthers. Adelphi jumped out to an early nine point lead, but the Purple Knights fought back and closed the gap.
Bridgeport tied the game right after the halfway mark of the first half and the two teams exchanged leads for the next few minutes.
Two layups and a handful of free throws gave the Purple Knights a six point lead that they took into the break.
Adelphi clawed its way back in the second half, as buckets from Walton, Al-Fatir Connor and Andres Fulgencio got the game back to even.
Matthew Price knocked down three triples in a row to give the 'Cats a six point lead and to spark the offense. Adelphi lived in the paint with Connor and Walton slashing to the basket.
The Panther attack and impressive defense kept them in front as they went on to win the game 88-82.
Walton led Adelphi with a season-high 23 points followed by Connor who scored 16.
Fulgencio recorded his first double-double as a Panther with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Head coach Dave Duke and the 'Cats will return to the court on Thursday when they travel to Bloomfield at 8 p.m.
