Honolulu, Hawaii — The Adelphi men's basketball team continued its cross-country trip on Saturday night when it took on host Hawaii Pacific in the final game of the Hoops in Hawaii Classic.
Much like the night prior, the Panthers had a slow start not scoring their first points until three minutes into the first half on a jump shot by Andres Fulgencio. The 'Cats continued to score in the paint with layups by Nuha Sagnia and Patrick Burke but Hawaii Pacific responded with some points from long range and took a ten point lead halfway through the period.
Fast break points by Tavin Pierre Phillipe and Al-Fatir Connor cut the lead to six but an 8-0 run by the Sharks put Adelphi's backs against the wall. The Panthers responded and went on a 12-2 run themselves, heading into the break only down four.
Adelphi gained its first lead of the game at the 17:21 mark of the second on a Burke jump shot. After that make, there was a two minute drought with no scoring from either side. Shooting woes plagued the 'Cats as Hawaii Pacific regained the lead.
The Sharks lead grew to 14 and Adelphi could not claw its way back as it fell, 71-58.
Fulgencio scored a season-high 23 points while also grabbing a team-high six boards in the game and was named to the Hoops in Hawaii all-tournament team.
Head Coach Dave Duke and the Panthers return to the court on Sunday at 2 p.m. HST/7 p.m. EST when they take on Chaminade in their final game in Hawaii
