Garden City, N.Y. - In its second sweep in as many games, the Adelphi University volleyball program closed out its non-conference regular season slate with three-set victory over Jefferson University on Thursday.
Delaney Kiendra topped the match for the Cats (18-8) with 12 kills, as the team improved to 8-2 overall against the Rams, who slide to 11-16 this season with their second straight loss. The opening kill of the contest was recorded by
Noelle Alberda, who reached the milestone of 1,000 career kills in the process.
The first two sets both reached a tied 10-10, but the home team prevailed, rattling off a string of points in each to pull away from the visitors. Adelphi used 17 kills with just two errors in the opening frame to secure a 25-14 victory with an impressive team hitting percentage of .577.
Holding their opponents to a negative attack percentage in the second was crucial to the 25-16 win, as
Kalena Ricketts capped the contest with a tally of her own.
The third set saw momentum in favor of the visiting Rams, who held an advantage down the stretch at 20-19. A service error from Jefferson - one of the nine in the match - lit a fire under Adelphi, who capitalized and used another kill from Alberda and a
Madeleine Chaapel service ace to stand two points from the match.
Mackenzie Casey and Kiendra managed to close the door with kills, respectively, sending the home team away with the win.
Adelphi hits the road for it's final regular season road trip to Saint Michael's College on Saturday, November 9. As part of the FloCollege FREEVIEW promotion, the livestream of Saturday's contest will be free
