Men's Soccer on Hunt for NE10 Championship, Earns No. 4 Seed

11/7/2024 12:00:00 PM

Mansfield, Mass. — The Adelphi men's soccer team will begin its journey to the Northeast-10 title as the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament.

The Panthers finished the season with a record of 9-5-3, 4-3-2 NE10 and although they dropped their final match against eventual No. 2 seed New Haven, have gained some steam heading into postseason play. Their most recent victory came at Assumption where they took care of business in a 5-2 win.

Come this Saturday, Adelphi will meet No. 5 Bentley on Motamed Field at 7 p.m. In the last matchup between the Panthers and the Falcons on Oct. 8, Adelphi was victorious at home thanks to a Pablo Herrera goal and some heroics from Victor Castel

Herrera led the NE10 in goals this season with 11, two more than the duo from SNHU that were in a tie for second.

Castel has not seen the field since the Panthers' 1-0 loss to nationally ranked SNHU on Oct. 12 but hopes to return for the postseason. It would be a big boost for the Browns and Gold as the captain recorded 13 points (four goals, five assists) in only 10 contests.

Two more offensive threats to look out for in the Adelphi attack are Richard DeBrosse and Rory Duggan who have combined for nine goals this season.

Alessio Consoli and Castel led the team in assists this season and the backline of Vaclav Borovicka, Leo Carlson Senoo, Lucas Nicolaou and Gustav Attas have been strong all season.

Adelphi has an 8-2-2 all-time record against Bentley, with a 5-0-1 record over the last six games played.

The winner of the quarterfinal will travel to No. 1 SNHU on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and the winner of that matchup will advance to the championship game.
