Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Season Comes to an End in Second Round of NCAA Tournament

Garden City, N.Y. — Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team took on Jefferson in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers got off to a rapid start when the first shot of the game from Lola Kochanskyj found the back of the net for an Adelphi lead.

Northeast-10 player of the year Kayleigh Goodrich tried to extend the lead, but hit the post in the 24th minute.

Just seconds later, an errant pass from an Adelphi defender went right to the feet of a Ram. Jefferson quickly took the ball down the field for a quick tic-tac-toe goal to tie the game.

The Panthers responded well, continuing to pepper the Jefferson backline but could not find an elusive second goal and the game went into the break tied at one a piece.

In the second half, it was a bit of a different story as the Rams came out flying. Adelphi was able to fend off their opponents with some solid defense but Jefferson gained the lead off of an impressive free kick goal in the 63rd minute.

The deficit seemed to wake up the 'Cats as the field flipped and they were in control of the ball. Adelphi continued to knock on the door and found the game-tying goal from the right foot of Kara DeBlaiso. Motamed Field was on its feet, but unfortunately the celebration was short lived as Jefferson regained the lead just seconds later off of a corner kick. Adelphi continued to fight and came up just short as Julia DeMicco hit the post in the 87th minute. The 2024 season came to close with a 3-2 defeat.
