Garden City, N.Y. - Anchored by a 27-point third quarter, the Adelphi University women's basketball team won its home contest against Molloy University on Saturday afternoon, by a final score of 67-50.
The Panthers got off to a usual hot start as of late, starting off 11-2 capped off by a pair of free throws from
Isabella Asencio. That lead eventually increased to double digits later in the quarter when senior transfer
Lateisha Willis hit two buckets in as many minutes. An opposing three-pointer capped off the first quarter for the Lions, trailing just five.Â
Good times kept rolling for the visitors in the early parts of the second frame, as a pull-up jumper from Janel Moore saw Molloy take their first lead on the day at 21-20. Following a chaotic string of missed or blocked shots, the Adelphi bench called timeout to gather their composure with just over two to play. The Brown and Gold capitalized off this break, with
Rolanda Robinson upping her point total to ten to score the final home points from the first half.Â
Shooting began to come easier at the start of the second half for the 'Cats, who finished the quarter on a 60% clip. Seven consecutive points from
Gamila Betton put Adelphi back up double digits within the first two minutes of action. Two deep balls from
Kaitlyn O'Connell increased this separation, as she'd end with five by the end of the afternoon.
Victoria Morgan's layup with under 30 seconds left sent us to the final period of acton.Â
While Molloy was able to even out the scoring more in the last 10 minutes, the Brown and Gold did not halt their momentum. Asencio and Morgan combined for six points down the stretch, with
Christina Sanchez's three-pointer putting the icing on the cake.Â
Other key contributors for the Panthers included
Lateisha Willis, who scored her first six collegiate points. Betton also finished with seven rebounds, her most since the season-opener.Â
Head Coach
Sade Jackson and Adelphi will play one more at home before the Thanksgiving break on Tuesday, Nov. 26 against Southern Connecticut State. Their second conference game of 2024-25 will tip-off at 1:30 p.m. inside the Center for Recreation & Sport.Â
