Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Herrera's Hat Trick Leads Men's Soccer in 5-2 Victory at Assumption

Worcester, Mass. - Behind a trio of goals from Pablo Herrera, the Adelphi University men's soccer program played to a 5-2 decision against Assumption on Saturday, with one game left to go in the regular season.

The Panthers (9-4-3, 3-2-2 NE10) have returned to the win column against the Greyhounds, after a loss last season and a pair of ties in 2022, not having beaten the NE10 foe since the 2021 campaign. The five goals are the most by the Cats all-time (since 2013) and a season-high in 2024.

Two of Herrera's tallies came in the first half - the opening strike taking place less than 10 minutes into the game. Alessio Consoli contributed for the second strike, nearly 12 minutes later to give the visiting team a comfortable two-goal lead at the break.

Coming out of the locker room, Adelphi extended it's lead to three when Sam Nolan found Richard DeBrosse following a corner kick for the Panthers. The offensive slaught continued as the home team was peppered with shots from the away bench - totaling a 22-11 advantage for the contest.

Another Consoli to Herrera connection made it 4-0 in favor of the visitors and Rory Duggan tacked on another in the 61st minute to keep the Greyhounds at bay.

It wasn't until almost 70 minutes into the contest that Assumption mustered any offense, scoring its first of the afternoon, before adding another 10 minutes later, but the deficit was too great to overcome.

Three different Adelphi goalies combined for 90 minutes in net, collecting five saves in total.

The Cats are back for their regular season finale on Wednesday, November 6 when they host the University of New Haven at 7:00 p.m. Prior to the start of the contest, the team and department will recognize the members of the senior class.
