Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Trio of Asencio, O'Connell, and Robinson Help Women's Basketball Survive Chestnut Hill; 66-60

Garden City, N.Y. - On the backs of 49 combined points from Isabella Asencio, Kaitlyn O'Connell, and Rolanda Robinson, the Adelphi University women's basketball team won its non-conference matchup against Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon, by a final score of 66-60.

The 'Cats came out on fire, getting out to a quick 11-0 run that featured a pair of threes from Christina Sanchez. Chestnut Hill would then get on the board with a pair of free throws by Tiayo Adeleken. After the Panthers held them scoreless for over  five minutes, both teams would trade baskets for the rest of the first quarter, highlighted by a pair of deep of triples by O'Connell to bring the CRS alive. The end of the frame saw the 'Cats ahead by 12.

In the second quarter, the Brown and Gold would continue to stay ahead after getting a spark off their bench with seven points combined from Victoria Morgan and Maura Carney. The Griffins would fight back creating momentum for themselves and cutting the Panther lead to just six points following a Siobhan Boylan three pointer. Adelphi responded with a triple of their own as Robinson would nail a three to get the lead back to nine heading into the half.

The second half started a roller coaster of emotions, as the Panthers watched their lead slip away following three straight triples from the Griffins, tying the game at 35 all. Chestnut Hill would then take a lead after Angela Sanders knocked down a jumper, forcing the Brown and Gold to use a timeout, stopping the momentum.

The hosts came roaring back going on a 15-0 run led by Robinson and O'Connell, each nailing a triple of their own along with a few driving layups, creating a comfortable lead once again for the 'Cats.

In the final quarter intensity was at a max, as Chestnut Hill once again battled back, scoring six straight points out of the intermission. This run tied the game at 58 all, from a Bri Ryder layup for the visitors. The Panthers were able to stop the bleeding as Robinson once again came through on a floating jumper from the free throw line to put the 'Cats back up by two. After a few key stops on the defensive side, Asencio came through in crunch time nailing all six free throws as the Brown and Gold were able to escape with a gritty win.

Chestnut Hill's Bridie McCann had 18, and Sanders finished with 15 points.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and Adelphi will be back on the hardwood this Wednesday, November 20th as they travel to Waltham, Mass. to open up their conference schedule against Bentley University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM, tune in on FloCollege.
