Garden City, N.Y. - In its first home contest of the 2024-25 season, the Adelphi University women's basketball team won its game against Felician University on Wednesday evening, by a final score of 68-41.
The biggest discrepancy of the night was the 31-3 advantage in points off turnovers that the home team capitalized off, including a 21-0 difference in the second half.Â
An initial 8-0 run sparked the Panthers, courtesy of four early points each from
Rolanda Robinson and
Kaitlyn O'Connell. The visitors would quickly respond, finishing the frame on a 14-6 run with Ane Valle scoring six capped off by a hook shot from Stephanie Formby.Â
The next frame saw the Brown and Gold find some separation, with a strong 10-1 run to close the half after the Golden Falcons took a 20-18 lead. Asencio and O'Connell yet again led the way, with the sophomore finishing the half with 13 points. Senior
Christina Sanchez went into the break with four rebounds.Â
Shooting finally began to click in the second half for the 'Cats, at a 52% clip including 40% from beyond the arc. Another 9-0 run to start the quarter was aided by Asencio once more, who finished with her first 20-point game of the season.Â
While the Panthers came back down to earth in the fourth, they still kept the point advantage in part due to
Victoria Morgan's eight points off the bench. Robinson would finish with 17 points, along with two steals and blocks.Â
Maura Carney's three-pointer with a minute to go was the final basket for the hosts, securing their first win inside the Center for Recreation & Sport this season. The Brown and Gold's 33 total rebounds were evenly spread out, with O'Connell's six leading the way.Â
