Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball program won its fourth straight match on Tuesday, topping Southern Connecticut State University, 3-0 to mark its fifth straight sweep against the Owls overall.
Along the away, senior setter
Kambel Fiser marked her 1,000th assist this season, starting the match at 975. The Seattle native accounted for 40 in the victory, and now totals 2,560 for her career, which puts her sixth all time in the Adelphi volleyball record books. She becomes the first player to reach the threshold inside of a season since Megan Manierski did it in back-to-back seasons (2015 and 2016).
Noelle Alberda was the kills-leader in the match, collecting 12 as teammate
Macarty McQueen also reached double-figures with 11, as the pair combined for just four errors on 38 attempts.
With Fiser at the service line, the Panthers (20-8, 7-2 NE10) rattled off seven straight points to keep the Owls in single digits as they extended their lead to eight. Two kills from
Emilia Cascapera, coupled with a set of miscues from the visitors gave Adelphi the opening set win, 25-11.
The second set played out much like the first with the home team securing a ten-point victory.
The Owls built some momentum inside of the third set, as the teams found themselves at a 17-all stalemate. With
Autumn Moore at the service line, the home team used kills from McQueen and
Delaney Kiendra to close the frame with eight straight points.
The Panthers combined for nine service aces and held a commanding 46-21 advantage in kills as the team put together a .420 team hitting percentage.
The win marks Head Coach Danielle Macknight's 12th 20-win season, in 18 years at the helm.
Adelphi hosts Southern New Hampshire on Friday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. Prior to opening serve, the team and department will recognize the members of the graduating class.
