Garden City, N.Y. - Highlighted by
Amanda Lee scoring her 43rd career goal, the Adelphi University field hockey team won its game against St. Thomas Aquinas at Motamed Field on Wednesday evening, by a final score of 9-3.
The visitors were only able to get one shot off in the first quarter, but it was enough to serve as the opening goal of the contest courtesy of Madelief Heijmans.
Ali Nagy would quickly respond with her seventh of the season to tie it at one apiece after Lee fired one into the circle for her to deflect.
Lee's signature moment came just three minutes afterward, when it was Nagy who led her down the semi-circle with the Stony Brook, N.Y. native slapping home the magic number to not only give the Panthers the lead in the game, but herself the lead in the all-time goals category.Â
32 shots were spread across the Brown and Gold offense in just 60 minutes of play. The second quarter took less than two minutes to tack another on the board, this one by the hands of
Emiline Biggin to double the host lead. Lana Mignon de Wet would put the Panther total at four heading into the halftime break.Â
After Lee tacked on another,
Kylie Peregoy would tally her first of the season just over five minutes into the second half. STAC would score their second thanks to Phileine Langeveld before we headed to the final set of 15.Â
Jillian Riche joined the goal party just 1:44 into the fourth quarter, with Biggin adding her second shortly after for the Panthers' eighth goal.
Sydney Flores would also earn a career milestone before it was all set and done, scoring her first-ever collegiate goal with under three minutes to play, putting a cap on the historic night.Â
Head Coach
Jess Mulhern and Adelphi will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they travel to #6 Assumption. Game time from Worcester, Mass. is set for 4 p.m.Â
