Three Second Half Goals Power Men's Soccer Past Bentley, 3-1

Garden City, N.Y. — Head coach Gary Book and the Adelphi men's soccer team returned home on Tuesday afternoon to host Bentley at Motamed Field.

The Panthers put together a very strong start, ripping off six shots in the first 20 minutes of the match. The Brown and Gold would continue its offensive pressure for the next 15 minutes, but Bentley caught a break.

In the 35th minute, an Adelphi foul would lead to a quick counter attack by the Falcons. Logan Veloria would made an impressive move and fire the ball into the back of the net to give Bentley the lead that would hold into halftime.

Adelphi may had been down but they were not out. Immediately after the whistle sounded to start the second half, the Panthers sent the ball down the field where Pablo Herrera would steal the ball, dice through the Bentley defense and fire a screamer to the back of the net to tie the game up at one.

The momentum would completely swing in Adelphi's favor as Bentley seemed tired from the first half attack. In the 62nd minute, Victor Castel would receive the ball from Sam Nolan and beat a Bentley defender before scoring a "wonder goal" as broadcaster Dan Hilton called it.

The captain was not done, however. Less than two minutes later freshman Matt Murphy soared down the sideline and placed a perfect cross at the feet of Castel, who just had to tap it in past the keeper to give the 'Cats a 3-1 lead.

Bentley would try to claw its way back for the remaining time, but the back line of Leo Carlsson Senoo, Lucas Nicolaou and Vaclav Borovicka would have none of it as Adelphi improved its record to 6-2-2, 3-0-1 NE10.

Santiago Arango made six saves in the match.

Adelphi outshot Bentley 18-12 and held a four to two advantage on corner kicks.

The Panthers will return to the pitch on Saturday when they host #19 Southern New Hampshire at 1 p.m.
