Springfield, Mass. — The Adelphi men's soccer team traveled up to American International on Saturday afternoon, searching for a fifth straight win.
The game started off slowly, with neither team able to get much offense going. Adelphi would try to work the ball into American International's end but were unable to create shots.
That changed in the 44th minute when a corner kick clipped the outside of the post and found the right foot of Pablo Ablanedo, who rifled the ball into the top corner of the net to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, the lead would be short lived. Immediately off of the ensuing kickoff, the Yellow Jackets would flick the ball to an open striker who chipped a goal over the head of Santiago Arango to tie the game up going into halftime.
The second period would tell much of the same story as early in the prior half. There were not many scoring chances and the game began to get very chippy as six yellow cards were given out.
Adelphi had a majority of the possession and had an excellent chance at gaining the lead in the 83rd minute from an Alessio Consoli shot, but the ball would sailed just wide of the net. The Panthers would have to settle for a 1-1 draw.
The Panthers held the edge in shots, seven to four and were awarded seven corner kicks compared to AIC's one.
Head coach Gary Book and the Adelphi men's soccer team will return to the pitch on Tuesday when they host Bentley on Motamed Field at 4 p.m.
