Volleyball Sweeps Franklin Pierce on Alumni Day

Garden City, N.Y. - Extending its win streak to seven, the Adelphi University volleyball team picked up a three-set victory over Franklin Pierce on Saturday, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Emilia Cascapera led the Cats (16-7, 5-1 NE10) with 10 kills as Kambel Fiser paced the offense with 34 assists, her third best mark for a three-set contest.

The Panthers capitalized on an 8-2 advantage in the early going of the opening set, and used a Kalena Ricketts kill to double the score at 18-9. An untimely service error returned the ball to the home side, just in time for Fiser to catch the Ravens offguard with a setter dump to conclude the set.

Franklin Pierce got as close as four in the second frame after the home team worked themselves out to a similar situation. Cascapera knotted two of the final four Adelphi points, as the hosts secured a 25-15 win, to move to 2-0 in the match.

Macarty McQueen and Gabrielle Stafford combined for an eight point run that made it 14-6 in the third, and continued to press on the gas down the stretch. The Ravens did not go away quietly, using a 7-3 run to stop the Panthers at match point. Cascapera managed to connect with Fiser to close out the contest and earn the Cats their seventh consecutive victory.

Adelphi returns to action next week with an integral conference matchup at the University of New Haven on Tuesday, October 29. The Chargers lost a five-set battle to American International College on Saturday, to determine the team that would maintain the top spot in the conference heading into the final few weeks of the regular season.
