Waltham, Mass. - In their seventh win out of eight games, the Adelphi University field hockey team won its contest against Bentley University on Saturday afternoon, by a final score of 4-0.
This win puts Adelphi (8-8, 8-3) in a tie for fifth place in the NE10 standings with Pace University, and one game back of Saint Anselm College for fourth, whom they hold a tiebreaker over.Â
Ali Nagy was granted a penalty stroke just over three minutes into the first quarter, with Bentley subbing in goalkeeper Annie Lorenz specifically for the matchup. Nagy, in her second penalty stroke attempt of the season, converted once more to the left side to put the Panthers on the board.Â
While the Falcons kept similar offensive pressure throughout the first frame, it was the 'Cats who would tally another before the clock went to zero.
Lana Mignon De Wet teed up a corner from Nagy and fired home her seventh of the year to double the Adelphi lead.Â
The Brown and Gold began to separate themselves in the second frame. Another pair of Panther tallies was in store, the first courtesy of
Jillian Riche off an
Amanda Lee assist. The next came just a few minutes later from graduate forward
Emiline Biggin off a rebound before the halftime buzzer.Â
Adelphi kept the pressure on in the second half, combining for a 10-2 shot advantage and five penalty corners to the Falcons' zero. Starting goalkeeper Mia Trottie racked up three of her six saves just in the third quarter, but the score staying the same heading into the final set of 15.Â
Bentley would rally for a couple shots, with Panther goalkeeper
Allison Gregory netting her fifth and final save with less than 30 seconds to play, securing the Brown and Gold's fourth consecutive win.Â
Head Coach
Jess Mulhern and Adelphi will complete their road trip on Tuesday, October 29 when they take on University of New Haven. Game time from West Haven, Conn. is set for 7 p.m.Â
