Garden City, N.Y. — The Adelphi men's soccer team took a quick pause from Northeast-10 conference play when it hosted the University of Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field.
The first half was a sleepy one with not much offense to come from either side. The Panthers would outshoot the Purple Knights eight to zero in the period but none were on goal as the teams went into the break in a scoreless tie.
The next stanza was when both teams would wake up, however. While Adelphi could not seem to find the net in the first half, they did in the second.
Richard DeBrosse would score a highlight reel goal just one minute in and give the Panthers a lead and from there, the 'Cats never looked back as they continued to pepper the Bridgeport defense with offensive chances.
Adelphi's next goal would come just six minutes later as Rory Duggan fired a rocket into the back of the net for his first goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.
Bridgeport would try to get back into the game, but the Panthers' back line was too strong, blocking any shot the opponent tried to throw on goal.
In the 66th minute, Alessio Consoli would send a beautiful feed to Gustav Attas off of a corner kick. The Bridgeport keeper would make the original save but Lucas Nicolaou would fire the rebound home for his second goal of the year.
The Panthers and Purple Knights would swap possession for the next few minutes until Bridgeport would get one back, scoring off of a rebound after a Chris Interiano save.
While there were only a few minutes left on the board, Adelphi was not done scoring. In the 85th minute a rebound from a Luca Boast shot would find the feet of freshman Jad Abbas who quickly sent the ball past the keeper for the first goal of his career. The Brown and Gold would earn a much needed victory, 4-1
Interiano earned his first win of his career, making four saves.
Attas picked up the first two assists and points of his career.
Adelphi outshot Bridgeport 21-8 and had a six to three advantage on corner kicks.
Head coach Gary Book and the Panthers will return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Assumption at 3 p.m.
